Beckford 11/10 to stick with Leeds

Monday, January 4, 2010

SkyBet make Leeds United star striker Jermaine Beckford 4/6 to leave the Whites for Newcastle United during the January transfer window.

Beckford, who scored his 20th goal of the season at Old Trafford on Sunday, dumping Manchester United out of the FA Cup, is 11/10 to remain at Elland Road.

Sky Bet’s football betting spokesman John Rhodes said: “After Beckford’s 20th goal of the season, Leeds manager Simon Grayson will be hoping that the transfer window shuts very soon, to keep the sniffers away from his prize asset.

“Beckford’s goal at Old Trafford will no doubt have added an extra million to his price tag as Newcastle boss Chris Hughton looks to bolster his strike force after drawing a blank against Derby in their last home game. The money has been for Newcastle since we opened the betting and Beckford remains 11/10 to still be at Leeds after the transfer window shuts.”

Following Manchester United’s shock elimination from the FA Cup, Sky Bet go 7/4 that one of the three remaining ‘Big Four’ sides (Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool) is eliminated in the next round. It’s 2/5 that all three progress to the last 16, with Liverpool needing to win their replay against Reading if they are to take on Burnley at Anfield in the fourth round.
