PokerStars.com Launches UK and Ireland Poker Tour
Poker Stars has announced the start of a new poker tour with stops throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. The UK and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) will kick off in Galway, Ireland in mid-December, and the first event in the UK will be held in Manchester in February.
The tour is designed to give local players without large travel budgets a chance to play in live events. “This is an incredibly exciting addition to the range of PokerStars live events,” said Team Poker Stars PRO Vicky Coren. “Here is our own local British and Irish tour, nicely accessible for those who can’t travel abroad very often or who save their foreign travel for larger international events.”
Other UKIPT stops include Killarney and Dublin in Ireland, one stop in Scotland, and UK cities Coventry, Nottingham, and Brighton. The Grand Final will be part of the EPT London event in October 2010.
The UIKPT will have a separate point-based leader board, and the 100 players who accumulate the most points will be eligible for a 10,000 pound freeroll. The top three will also earn PokerStars.com sponsorship to UKIPT Season II events.
Targeted at both amateur and professional players, the tour will feature events with a range of buy-ins, from 500 pounds to 2000 euro. Of course, PokerStars is offering online satellites for UKIPT packages.
The UKIPT is the latest addition to PokerStars’ growing list of tournament series, including the European Poker Tour (EPT), Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT), and Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT).
The site also sponsors the Russian, Italian, Czech-Slovak, and Australia-New Zealand Poker Tours.
