The Carbon Trust is a not-for-profit organisation seeking to accelerate the move to a reduced-carbon
economy by helping develop low carbon businesses.
Betfair first launched its environmental strategy in 2007 and a key aim was to achieve this
certification. The primary goal was to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 30% per £ of
revenue by the end of 2010, and 2008/9 figures show the carbon output having decreased from
19.7t per £m of revenue to 17.4t.
The certification means Betfair is industry-leading in tackling climate change and has taken action by
reducing the carbon emissions that it is directly responsible for rather than just paying others to offset
emissions.

Betfair CSR Manager Georgina Corbett said: “We have made tremendous progress as a company
since launching our environmental policy two years ago. We still have some way to go if we are to
meet the ambitious targets we have set for the end of 2010 and are fully committed to doing so.”
A Carbon Trust Standard Assessor added: “Overall Betfair has demonstrated that they are
committed to reducing their carbon emissions and have reduced their footprint over the assessment
period.”
